Established in 2015, the Conference brings together established scholars, early career researchers, practitioners and graduate students from national and international Universities and institutions. The aim of the conference is to share theoretical and empirical research on academic integrity; to debate best practices from around the world and to conceptualize new approaches. The focus of the 3rd Annual Conference is Academic Integrity and Internationalization. Many important challenges arise from this dynamic context: sustaining shared values and practices of academic integrity across borders; ensuring continuity of high quality standards in transnational education; and using technologies to promote academic integrity (whilst avoiding abuse of technologies by students to breach rules of integrity) are some of them.Item Open Access Academic Integrity Policy on the Example of USА Universities: Lessons for Kazakhstani Universities [Abstract](M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University, Nazarbayev University, 2019-05-16) Yap, Joseph M.; O'Donnell, Loretta; Gimranova, Dilbar; Priestley, Duncan; Qoraboyev, IkboljonCitation and referencing should not be taken for granted. To be scholarly, one must follow a conventional citation and referencing format. The reference list must be accurate and free from mistakes. By doing so, the bibliographic information cited in the research becomes valid. This ongoing research used citation analysis to share the initial results found in tracking the common errors generated by graduate students in referencing. In particular, the research will focus on APA style as this is the citation guide prescribed by the school.Item Open Access Common Errors Found in APA Citation: Basis to Improve the Information Literacy Program [Paper](M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University, Nazarbayev University, 2019-05-16) Soltys, Dennis; O'Donnell, Loretta; Gimranova, Dilbar; Priestley, Duncan; Qoraboyev, IkboljonTraditional compliance policing methods to ensure academic integrity tend relatively to ignore the developmental approach, and to ignore whether learning is actually occurring. Cheating and plagiarism indicate a breakdown in pedagogy, which is better addressed by student development than policing. Notwithstanding, the knowledge economy creates both a need for and opportunity to promote academic integrity within a developmental approach, which emphasizes analytical thought and rewards acquisition of soft skills. Quality assurance can be achieved by means followed in conventional institutional accreditations.Item Open Access Configuring Pedagogy and Community Culture for Academic Integrity in Kazakhstani Universities [Paper](M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University, Nazarbayev University, 2019-05-16) Kasa, Rita; Mhamed, Ali Ait Si; O'Donnell, Loretta; Priestley, Duncan; Gimranova, Dilbar; Qoraboyev, IkboljonIn higher education governance and policy, case studies of university as organizations are a conventional approach of doing research. When research is completed and articles and conference presentations are in the process of disseminating research findings, sometimes researchers choose to name the organizations that they studied. But often times, researchers choose not to disclose the actual names of the organizations they have researched. In the latter case, universities in research outputs are typically named by some labels or they are given fictional titles. In any case, whether the researchers disclose the name of the university or not, organizations need to be described since they each in a case study would constitute a case.Item Open Access Kazakh higher education system in the context of competition from Chinese and Russian universities(KAZGUU University, Nazarbayev University, 2018-05-18) Qoraboyev, Ikboljon; Gimranova, Dilbar; Kemelbayeva, SauleThis study conceptualizes and analyses impact of internationalization strategies of Chinese and Russian Universities on resilience of Kazakh Universities using Hirschman’s Exit-Voice-Loyalty framework.Item Open Access Using a Reading Journal to Develop Source Use Competencies for Academic Writing [Abstract](M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University, Nazarbayev University, 2019-05-16) Anderson, Rheanne; Molyneux, Elizabeth; O'Donnell, Loretta; Gimranova, Dilbar; Priestley, Duncan; Qoraboyev, IkboljonAppropriate incorporation of source material in academic writing can be challenging for university students, and those who struggle to demonstrate competency in this area can run into issues with plagiarism. Pedagogic approaches to reducing plagiarism often take the complementary routes of explicit teaching on academic integrity combined with instruction on source use and referencing (Pecorari and Petric, 2014). This presentation will describe an instructional tool used in an Academic Reading course on a pre-Masters program for students entering an EMI university in Kazakhstan.Item Open Access Using a Reading Journal to Develop Source Use Competencies for Academic Writing [Paper](M. This presentation will describe an instructional tool used in an Academic Reading course on a pre-Masters program for students entering an EMI university in Kazakhstan. Students are required to keep a Reading Journal throughout the two semester course. This involves sustained practice in referencing and record-keeping, summarising, note-taking and responding to ideas in a text, all stages which are recognised as foundational before students are able to successfully incorporate source material into their written work while maintaining a clear distinction between the student’s thoughts and the author’s words and ideas (Cumming, Lai and Cho, 2016). In this session, the presenters will describe the pedagogic theory underpinning the Reading Journal design and implementation in their course, give some reflections on its use in practice, and invite audience members to consider applications in their own teaching and course design contexts.Item Open Access Инновационная Оценка Качества Проведения Лекции [Abstract](КАЗГЮУ им.
