| dc.description.abstract | This project presents the integrated design of a 12-story high-rise office building with a one-story basement located in downtown San Jose, California. The proposed development aims to address the increasing demand for modern, sustainable, and technologically advanced office spaces within Silicon Valley while complying with the strict seismic and environmental requirements of the region. The project combines architectural, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and construction management disciplines to develop a safe, efficient, and economically feasible commercial building. The structural system consists of reinforced concrete special moment frames designed in accordance with IBC 2024 and seismic design standards for Seismic Design Category D. Detailed structural and geotechnical analyses were conducted to evaluate gravity, wind, and seismic loads, resulting in the selection of deep pile foundations due to unfavorable shallow foundation bearing capacity. Sustainability considerations were integrated throughout the design through LEED-oriented strategies, including rainwater harvesting, energy-efficient systems, sustainable material selection, and advanced waste management planning compliant with California environmental regulations. In addition, the project includes construction scheduling, risk assessment, financial analysis, and cost estimation to evaluate project feasibility and long-term performance. The final design demonstrates a comprehensive engineering solution that balances structural safety, environmental responsibility, functional efficiency, and economic viability for a high-rise commercial development in a seismically active urban environment. | |
