Abstract

The purpose of this article is to help develop the knowledge of Kazakh as well as international librarians in terms of library services through the proposed introduction of services observed in UK universities. The aim of this study is to survey the respondents to identify the weaknesses of the services and activities provided by library staff, as well as for comparison of the respondents’ opinions and proposal for the introduction of foreign experience for the improvement of activities of University libraries in Kazakhstan. To identify the problematic aspects of the University library, statistical analysis of the data collected during the survey was used, and it could be one of the ways contributing to the formation of new trends in the development of libraries. The article discusses the situation with the identification of strengths and weaknesses in the service activity of the Kokshetau State University Library comparing with positive current situation of the Cardiff University Libraries. Described in detailed survey can be done in any library to identify strengths and weaknesses, as well as work out suggestions on troubleshooting and improving library services. The usefulness of the article lies in the proposal to include new library services and approaches from the observed positive experience in the UK.
