Abstract

Academic libraries constantly respond to the growing information needs of their community members. The principles of inclusion and diversity are fundamental in offering resources and services. The children segment is considered a non-traditional part of the academic community. However, the libraries are committed to their role of supporting literacy, learning, and reading and should address the children's needs and rights to information. In this presentation, we will highlight the children's collection as one of the most important parts of an academic library. We will discuss the development and usage of juvenile literature at Nazarbayev University library. The presentation will consider the programs and services for children and parental members of the NU community. Finally, we will share some concerns and challenges in developing and promoting the children’s collection as well as preparing the programs for children at an academic library.
