Abstract

This presentation explores the role of strategic partnerships in enhancing professional learning and teaching excellence at Nazarbayev University (NU). It highlights the collaboration between the Center for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CiLT) and the NU Library as an example of how university support units can work together to strengthen educational quality, faculty development, and student success. The presentation discusses the complementary expertise of both units, with CiLT focusing on pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, educational technology, and professional learning, while the Library contributes expertise in information literacy, digital literacy, research support, and academic integrity. Key collaborative initiatives include the development of a mandatory Academic Integrity course for undergraduate students, the promotion of ethical and transparent use of generative artificial intelligence in higher education, and joint policy development related to AI in learning and teaching. The partnership also supports capacity building beyond the university through professional development programs for school librarians and the dissemination of best practices across the higher education sector. The presentation argues that successful collaboration is built on effective communication, shared institutional goals, mutual respect, and recognition of complementary strengths. The NU experience demonstrates how partnerships between academic libraries and teaching and learning centers can create innovative learning environments, foster academic excellence, and contribute to institutional development in a rapidly evolving educational landscape.
