Packing Structure of Binary Particle Compacts with Fibers

Abstract

This study investigates the packing microstructure of powder compacts made from ternary mixtures of spherical particles (fine and coarse) and fibers using the Discrete Element Method (DEM) under gravity. Image analysis was developed to quantify void size distribution across X, Y, and Z directions. Results show that increasing the fraction of small spherical particles results in denser packing, and that adding fibers produces high-density compacts with uniformly distributed small voids, especially pronounced in mixtures with higher fine particle content.,
