This editorial introduces a collection of studies focused on the interactions between urban development and fluvial-hydro-environmental systems. As cities expand and natural waterways are increasingly modified, understanding the dynamics of riverine ecosystems in urban contexts becomes critical. The selected articles in this Research Topic explore challenges such as flood management, pollution control, and ecosystem resilience, and present innovative modeling, monitoring, and policy frameworks. The editorial emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of urban water research and the importance of sustainable integration of hydrological systems into urban planning.en
