Abstract

Handwriting problems have significant effects on the academic achievement, self-esteem, and behavior of approximately one fourth of children around the world. Early detection and comprehension of these problems are crucial for successful cure. This thesis presents a handwriting evaluation tool that has been designed for the Cyrillic alphabet, but may also be modified to work with other alphabets. Designed specifically for the iPad, this application solves the constraints of conventional paper-based assessments by allowing for the evaluation of handwriting dynamics. The software possesses sophisticated functionalities to analyze several elements of handwriting, such as kinematics, pressure, and tilt, regardless of the exact information being written. The study also explores the creation of customized remedial activities that address specific characteristics of handwriting indicated by the assessment instrument. Preliminary findings suggest that the use of games designed to enhance these skills can result in enhancements in the overall quality of handwriting. Moreover, the research investigates ways to prevent handwriting issues by assisting preschool children in developing essential visuo-motor coordination skills. By introducing this modernized assessment tool and innovative remediation strategies, this thesis aims to contribute to the early detection and effective treatment of handwriting difficulties, ultimately improving the educational experience and well-being of children.
