| dc.description.abstract | The present paper is a design and construction proposal of a 4-story shopping mall at the site of 130 W College St, Los Angeles, California, USA. The location is in a dynamic commercial hub and with the rising urbanization and the rising pressure to develop mixed-use projects, there is a need to come up with innovative and effective construction practices. These issues have been addressed through a holistic method that entails incorporation of architectural, structural, material, and geotechnical factors. The architectural design of the building complies with the rules of the International Building Code (IBC). The designs of the structures are guided by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The SAP 2000 software has been utilized to carry out the structural analysis in detail and model the response of the building to the gravity and lateral loads. Reinforced concrete was the choice of a major construction material as this material is durable, versatile, and cost-effective. A comparative analysis of the foundation options and geotechnical investigations suggested that the best solution to be used to ensure that the superstructure is supported is the use of a pile foundation. This project designs a solid waste management system for a shopping mall, focusing on waste separation into recyclables, organics, and residuals. The system is based on local regulations and waste composition data. It includes an analysis of recyclable materials. The design ensures compliance with sustainability goals and adaptability to future changes and to LEED standards to make certain that the construction process is safe, sustainable and environmentally friendly. This project shows a comprehensive approach to urban commercial construction, and that is innovative design, sustainability, and adherence not only to international but also local building codes. | |
