Abstract

This project presents the development of the NU Housing Management System (NU HMS), a scalable and user-friendly web application designed to modernize housing operations at Nazarbayev University. The system replaces outdated tools such as Excel and Google Forms with a centralized platform that enables administrators to manage room assignments, tenant data, maintenance requests, and occupancy tracking in real time. Developed using Agile methodology, the system features a React-based frontend and a Spring Boot backend, connected via RESTful APIs and secured with JWT-based authentication. Key functionalities include dynamic room filtering, tenant check-in/check-out workflows, family member registration, and multilingual support. The application is containerized with Docker and deployed using Render for continuous delivery. Stakeholder collaboration with the University Service Management (USM) guided the design and refinement of features, ensuring alignment with real-world administrative needs. The NU HMS provides a maintainable and extensible foundation for future improvements such as utility billing, analytics dashboards, and mobile support.
