On behalf of the Editorial and Advisory Board of Journal of Clinical Medicine of Kazakhstan, this article addresses the growing problem of researchers publishing in predatory journals—particularly among Kazakhstani scientists—and offers guidance on identifying reputable journals and navigating the publication process. It reviews Beall’s criteria for predatory publishers, highlights the need for robust peer review, transparency about editorial boards, accurate indexing, realistic author fees, and ethical publishing practices. Practical tips include journal selection tools (Elsevier’s Journal Finder, Jane, Springer Suggester, JournalGuide), caution with intermediary services, and the importance of understanding indexing, impact factor limitations, and avoidance of simultaneous submissions.
