Abstract

This article highlights the importance of examining Kazakh proverbs and sayings (мақал‑мәтелдер) through an ethnolinguistic lens. Traditionally studied as folklore, philosophy, or stylistic devices, they are here analyzed as cultural and linguistic artifacts reflecting the worldview, history, and social practices of the Kazakh people. The paper emphasizes how proverbs encode collective experience, values, and identity, serving as historical evidence and cognitive formulas. Drawing on the works of academician Ә.Т.Қайдар and others, it explores the internal and external factors shaping their formation, semantic motivation, and cultural symbolism. Ultimately, proverbs are shown to be vital sources for understanding national mentality and ethnocultural heritage.
