This preface introduces the SPEPS thematic collection of eight papers, most of which originated from Session S‑IT18 at JpGU 2022. Contributions explore mass and energy transport by fluids and magmas in the Earth's deep crust and mantle, focusing on geochemical and geophysical properties, experimental and numerical modeling, geophysical imaging (seismic tomography, conductivity), and mechanisms influencing tectonics, subduction fluids, and mantle convection. It summarizes the scope of included papers, covering mantle geochemistry, slab dynamics, solubility of trace elements in high-pressure fluids, and phase relation modeling across Earth’s interior scales.
