Abstract

This article examines the development and usage of terminology related to imitative theory (имитатив теориясы) within Kazakh linguistics. It traces the origins of the theory in Turkic studies, highlighting its role in explaining sound-symbolic and mimetic phenomena across languages. Key terms such as еліктеуіш, имитатив, мимема, мағына анықтағыш формант, and грамматикалық индикатор are discussed alongside their equivalents in other linguistic traditions. The study emphasizes contributions by scholars including Ә.Т.Қайдар and K.Хұсайын, who expanded the theoretical framework and introduced new concepts. Overall, the paper underscores the growing significance of imitative theory in understanding lexical formation, sound symbolism, and ethnolinguistic processes in Kazakh.
