dc.description.abstractResearch has been emphasized in several major Kazakhstani state policies on education and science development, and the importance of research lies in the promotion of innovation and economic development of the country. Within the research ecosystem of Kazakhstan, over 50% of researchers are faculty based in universities but there has been limited research done to illustrate their understanding and practice of research. This study seeks to examine faculty’s understanding and practice of research in Kazakhstani HEIs. A multiple case study was based on a university (which is a part of SPIID 2015-2019) in which faculty’s perspectives were explored across the three departments of hard sciences. This design was applied because it provides more extensive data to be collected and more profound understanding of the concept of research.
