dc.description.abstract | This thesis addresses physical layer security issues for visible light communication (VLC) systems and proposes use of intelligent reflective surfaces (ISRs) to improve security. A scenario with a transmitter such as a ceiling light, a legitimate receiver, and an eavesdropper is considered for an indoor space. In the scenario, IRS that is mounted on the wall constantly changes the characteristics of the multipath channel so that any attempts of the eavesdropper to estimate the channel and intercept data would be futile. The work demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed method through numerical simulations by evaluating the bit-error rates of the users and secrecy capacity of the system. The thesis dives into one of the latest and most promising technologies, visible light communications (VLC), and the ways of securing it from eavesdroppers. In this work, IRS protects the channel from the eavesdroppers on the physical layer of communications systems. The given thesis considers a practical real-world scenario, simulates the system’s performance, and thoroughly discusses the results. The initial findings indicate that the use of IRS offers a promising approach to safeguard communication against eavesdroppers who may attempt to exploit channel estimation to breach the system’s secrecy capacity. | en_US |
