Roots of the nation: folklore and its impact on the formation of Slavic national identities

Abstract

This essay examines the extent to which folklore was used by groups of elites in Ukraine and Czechia to establish national identities. It was seen as a useful tool as the process of collection of folklore is a careful selection of certain aspects of culture to establish a particular narrative that a prcolaimed nation existed for a long time.
