dc.description.abstract | Research objective: The main objective of this research is in-depth exploration of people's experience of using Virtual Reality technology on warm-up routine before training in the gym. Virtual Reality is widely used in the sports industry and attracts more and more people's interests. Since these technologies are new and no previous research conducted about VR in warm-up phase, this study will be an instrument for a deeper exploration of people’s perception and experience of VR application in warm-up activities. This is an exploratory qualitative study. Population and sampling: 5 regular gym users of Nazarbayev University were recruited by using convenience and purposive sampling. Data collection: The semi-structured interviews were conducted from January to March 2022. Participants were asked about their usual warm-up routine as well as the knowledge about virtual reality technologies. Each participant received copy of transcribed answers in order to validate transcripts, maintain research ethics, and empower the interviewees by giving them choice over what was written. Data analysis: A pragmatic framework analysis based on qualitative research analysis method was used to examine interview answers. Two researchers compared independently created codes and categorized them into themes. Based on the pragmatic framework analysis 2 themes “Warm-up routine” and “Virtual reality” and 2 sub themes “Potential barriers to skipping warm-up” and “Warm-up sessions with VR” were identified. Findings: The main sources of information, potential reasons to skipping and changing warm-up routine were discovered. Findings also highlighted the positive attitude of participants towards VR technology, recommendations and advice. Conclusion: This was the first qualitative study to specifically examine the gym users experience of using VR warm-up before training. Judging from the experiences of our participants, VR is one of the technologies with a high potential for growth and additional research. | en_US |
