Internationalization and Local Research Capacity Strengthening: Factors Affecting Knowledge Sharing Between International and Local Faculty in Kazakhstan

Abstract

This study examines how international faculty in Kazakhstan engage in strengthening local research capacity by sharing explicit knowledge (through publications) and tacit knowledge (through student apprenticeship), yet remain disengaged from building capacity among local academics. The main factors behind this disengagement include ambiguity in the social contract, ineffective reward structures, and the lack of tenure contracts.,
