Abstract

Multiphase flow in porous media plays a crucial role in various applications, such as oil extraction, CO2 storage and soil remediation. The objective of this project was to develop a numerical simulation of oil recovery using COMSOL Multiphysics software employing a two-phase flow model based on Darcy’s law and to compare analytical and numerical solutions of the 1D single phase flow core flooding problem. The simulation results were validated against existing experimental data to assess their accuracy. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of COMSOL for simulating multiphase flow in oil recovery processes and highlight the critical role of accurate simulation in optimizing enhanced oil recovery (EOR) strategies.
