Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Educationhttp://nur.nu.edu.kz/handle/123456789/7803Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in education brings about significant changes with immense benefits, such as personalized learning, accessibility, and flexibility. However, it also poses inevitable challenges, such as the issue of integrity and education equity. This may redefine the traditional learning environment and create new opportunities for customized learning. However, careful consideration of the potential issues that may arise is also required. Despite the advantages and challenges of AI implementation, more research is needed on the role of AI in STEM education in the Kazakhstani context. Therefore, this study aims to explore the relationship and effect of AI chatbots on the academic performance and motivation of students in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics within private school settings in Kazakhstan. This study employs a quantitative research design, using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis to examine data collected from private secondary and high school students who have engaged with AI chatbots in the classroom and beyond. The study considers various confounding variables, including gender, technology literacy, extracurricular activities, teacher support, self-directed learning, and resource access. The research findings indicate that some variables, such as gender, technology literacy, and extracurriculars, statistically affect students' academic achievements, whereas only extracurricular activities affect motivation. In contrast, AI use and other confounding variables had an impact but were not statistically significant or had no effect. The insights gained from this study will be valuable for educators, policymakers, and academic institutions in AI use, improving the effectiveness of STEM education and contributing to Kazakhstan's innovative education.enAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 United StatesArtificial Intelligence in EducationAI chatbotsStudent MotivationAcademic AchievementsType of access: RestrictedTHE IMPACT OF AI-BOT USAGE ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS AND MOTIVATION IN KAZAKHSTANMaster's thesis
