NAZARBAYEV UNIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY.http://nur.nu.edu.kz/handle/123456789/5760This paper investigates factors that have a significant influence on decision-making for using public bike-sharing schemes of the residents of the Nur-Sultan and Almaty cities. Recently, municipalities have introduced public bike-sharing schemes to promote alternative modes of transportation. Analysis showed that residents in both cities are aware of the available public bike-sharing facilities. Yet, there are several factors that hinder them from using it. The research results show that the majority of the respondents own a private vehicle and public opinion is not shifted toward a sustainable lifestyle. Residents' elevated concerns about environmental damage are not balanced by the willingness to use public bikes.enAttribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 United Statesbike-sharing schemessustainable lifestyleproximityinfrastructureconveniencealternative transportation modesenvironmental damageCYCLING AS AN ALTERNATIVE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION IN CITIES OF KAZAKHSTANDoes the exposure to the public bike-sharing promote alternative modes of transportation in Almaty and Nur-Sultan?Master's thesis
