Abstract:
This paper investigates factors that have a significant influence on decision-making for
using public bike-sharing schemes of the residents of the Nur-Sultan and Almaty cities. Recently, municipalities have introduced public bike-sharing schemes to promote alternative modes of transportation. Analysis showed that residents in both cities are aware of the available public bike-sharing facilities. Yet, there are several factors that hinder them from using it. The research results show that the majority of the respondents own a private vehicle and public opinion is not shifted toward a sustainable lifestyle. Residents' elevated concerns about environmental damage are not balanced by the willingness to use public bikes.
